Portugal booked the semi final berth in the Euros for the fourth time after beating Poland in the penalty shootout with another lackluster performance. The match looked great on the cards and Poland were marked as the favorites to proceed into the finals but once again the luck was on the Portugal team’s side as they somehow managed to beat the Poland team into the penalties.

Poland vs Portugal: The Portuguese team through to the semi finals after an unconvincing performance

Poland looked promising form the start and were able to score a goal in just 2 minutes with the great positioning skills of their star man Robert Lewandowski but the lead was not long lived as his now Bayern Munich Partner and the Portuguese wonder kid Renato Sanches scored a brilliant goal.  Both teams have their moments in the game as they came closer to score a goal but no one was able to land a final touch into the net. The game went undecided for the 90 minutes and was the same scene in the next 30 which led to the penalty shootout were Portugal prevailed when Jakub Balszczykowski’s decisive penalty was saved by Rui Patricio which helped Portugal to reach into the final four.

Robert Lewandowski finally opens his account

Robert Lewandowski had one heck of season at Bayern Munich last year as he scored goals in bulk and smashed many records. The same form was displayed in the Qualifying where the Hitman scored 13 goals, making him the top goal scorer but his shooting boots went missing at the Euros as he was unable to score in the last 4 matches even though he worked very hard for his team but this was a moment which demanded something special and the Bayern star came up with lively goal.

A night to forget for Cristiano Ronaldo

Everyone was particularly excited when they saw Cristiano Ronaldo score two amazing goals to earn a draw for his team and making them qualify for the knockouts but apart from that Ronaldo has been silent for whole tournament and same was the case last night as he was presented with some glorious opportunities which should have surely ended into the back of the net but Ronaldo was wayward with his first touches and couldn’t produce the magic that he normally produces for the team. His failed chances could have proved costly for the team but the luck was on their side.

Portugal has a superb luck

The best performance of Portugal is yet to be seen as they are not able to win a single game in the 90 minutes even though they haven’t faced a tough team so far. This is an utter disgrace for the teams like Italy and Spain who had some tough draws and were eliminated and Portugal even after having easier games could not produce a stirring performance. It is not that they are not a strong team, they do are but are yet to fulfill their potential and have another easier draw on their cards in the name of Wales.

Renato Sanches is the shingling light for the Portugal team

What a year it has been for this teenager. He was barely 18 years old and impressed the whole world with his stunning performances which earned him a dream move to Bayern Munich and he is here representing his country and scoring goals. He was not the name on the Portugal boss first playing 11 but has earned a spot for himself after delivering according o the exceptions. He is the only positive in the Portugal camping this time around and could be the one for the future.
