The host showed off their class as they demolished the “story of the tournament” team Iceland. It looked like one way traffic as the French team fired 5 goals in the opposition net and the Iceland back line which was superb against England blew away with the back to back attacks form the French team. The Iceland team looked like they will once again come up with another shocking performance and will knock the hosts out of the tournament but Dider Deschamps had other ideas as he devised some smart plans which worked brilliantly for the French team as they easily advanced into the semi finals.
France vs Iceland: The Host ends the Fairy Tale of the Tournament
It all started after 12 minutes when French team went ahead with the Olivier Giroud’s clinical finishing. It was Paul Pogba who joined the party as he headed a goal in the Iceland net in the 19 minutes. The two goals make it look like the Iceland fairytale will be soon coming to an end and that did happen when the French team scored two goals in just three minutes before the half time whistle which ended the glorious and inspiring campaign of the Iceland team.
France show England, how the job is done
Well the last match from which Iceland emerged victorious was the one with England where the three lions pampered against the stubborn team. This was a complete different story as France clearly showed that how big teams play and use their resources in style. They completely outplayed the wild cards and pinned them down within the first 20 minutes of the game but didn’t rest there as they came up with two more goals. The thing worth watching was that the Iceland team did showed the sign of a comeback after their goal in the second half but France restored their advantage in style.
Antoine Griezmann comes up with a goal once again
One player that the French team relied on for their goals was the Atelico Hitman Antoine Griezmann and why not, after all he had a stunning season for Atelico. The Frenchman disappointed in his initial matches as he was unable to find an opening or a crack, the way he used to do for the Atelico as he was not played in his favored role but since he has been played in his favorite role of the secondary striker. He has been stunning and was it once again as his movement was brilliant and he did came up with the goal for his team.
Umtiti steps up
The suspension of Adil Rami brought deeper concerns for the French team as they the French team was already struggling with its injury hit defensive unit. Everyone had favored the inclusion of Manchester city man Mangala but the French boss had other ideas as he introduced the latest Barcelona singing Umtiti into the game partnering him with Laurent Koscielny. The now Barcelona man quickly got adjusted with the role he was assigned and showed his class. He could be serious bet for the semi final against the mighty germans.
Giroud back with his antics
The striker was booed and criticized for playing poor for his team in the tournament but I think Giroud is hugely underrated when it comes to the national side. When you will open the records book you will see that Oliver Giroud has come up with 10 goals in his last 9 appearance which truly shows the way he has contributed for his team. The last night match also showed the same story as he once again proved his class by scoring two and assisting one.
